Just because it is only talked about 1, 2 , 3 or 4 times in GODs word, does not mean that is any less important than the rest of his word.

Good questions. I've agonized over many of them in the past and you've added a few new ones to my list. (Thanks a lot.)

I know that as a pastor and as a church, you have to grapple with at least some of these issues and come to some agreement. There are those who will not see them as "secondary" and will all too happily split the church over them. I'm glad I'm not an elder.

As an individual, I'm becoming more and more comfortable not having black and white answers. The older I get, the less I know for sure. It's as if God is whittling away all my absolutes until there will be nothing left but "love the Lord your God" and "love your neighbor". When I have hurt someone in the past, it was often because I loved my beliefs more than I loved God or the person. Sometimes truly loving someone involves confronting and condemning some sin in their life. I just haven't ever found this to be true unless I have a real relationship with the person. Condemning people as a group precludes us from having those real loving relationships.

As a Christian, to what extent does "Honor your mother and father" apply to when they have a mother or father who is a homosexual?

i don't think the homosexual issue is limited to 4 passages. its related to all of the sexual purity passages and marriage passages. if two of the same identity are married then how is the difference between Christ and the church modeled? which partner plays the church/bride and which represents Christ/groom? i have many blog posts on homosexuality at my blog. umbl0g.blogspot.com

Two things: One, I think the fellow bloggers are filled with questions and not answers. I know I am. I'm glad this issue isn't central to our faith, because its so hard to sort it all out. I remember hearing Tony Campolo speak on "the gay issue" and how the church should respond. He and his wife differ in opinion on this subject to the point that they attend different churches. Incredible.
Two: A thought on the Ephesians 5:24 passage about wives submitting to husbands. The verse is a lightning rod, but it is seldom mentioned that it is in a passage that emphasizes that all believers should submit to each other. 5:21 says "be subject to one another in the fear of Christ." 5:25 says "Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her." Not many people talk about those verses, but I think the passage as a whole is about mutual submission. The question that remains, after reading things like "the husband is the head of the wife" is, does submission look different depending on whether you are the husband or wife? I guess I think it does.

Question: What does it mean when Paul says that sexual sins are sins against your own body? Is it the physical body? Is it against the Holy Spirit who indwells our body? Is it against the whole body of Christ? All three? (See 1 Corinthians 6:18-20)
