Any church that limits women based on their gender to certain roles in ministry leadership is sexist. Most churches need to review the concept servant leadership and raise up individuals based on their gifts, passions, and talents instead of merely their gender. If churches do limit women to certain roles due to their gender and do not also enforce slavery and head coverings, they are inconsistent.

Eric, I agree with Mat's comment and with your post. The cultural piece of this issue is essential. I cannot seem to reconcile my current Southern Baptist church membership with my beliefs that women can -gasp- be in church leadership in a position that amounts to something more than Sunday school teacher. I have to thank a Gordon-Conwell professor for encouraging me to research the issue myself and come to some personal conclusions and convictions. But I applaud you for not shying away from a potential can of worms. (Thanks to Mat for linking this post to Facebook!)

Excellent post Eric! This is a very well handled treatment of this issue and I look forward to where this all goes. May we all follow where God leads, as I imagine that He enjoys surprising us all.
