Isaiah 55:6 – Seek the Lord while He may be found, call on Him while He is near… For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are my ways your ways, declares the Lord… As the rain and the snow come down from heaven… So is my word that goes out from my mouth. It will
There’s so much in that. It isn’t what I was planning on preaching on. While we were singing that last song, Your love oh Lord reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies, your righteousness is like the mighty mountains and all of that. As it was going through my head, your ways are not my ways, your thoughts are not my thoughts. And as I’ve been preaching through the series on who God is, I feel like that needs to be repeated again and again.
You think of words like love. God is saying, that love that you experience from your wife or your parents, that’s not my love. That’s nothing compared to my love that I have for you. Don’t judge my love based on your earthly expressions of love. And my faithfulness to you. We look at faithfulness between a husband and a wife or your parents, or at work or whatever. Faithfulness, faithful people is nothing. My faithfulness is so far beyond that. You have no idea. And my holiness and my mercy and my grace. All the attributes, the characteristics of God that we’ve been going through. We have this limited viewpoint. So many of us judge God and the way He is by what we’ve experienced in human relationships. And God is saying, I want you to know that my ways are not your ways. My thoughts are not your thoughts. What you think love is, you have no idea what love is. The grace that you’ve received, you have no idea what true grace, true forgiveness, true mercy, true holiness, all of this. You have no idea.
And so as we continue in this series, I want you to keep that in mind as we start this one. That God’s ways are not your ways. And whatever we’re talking about when it comes to God and whatever your earthly expressions, what your experiences have been, God says, no, I’m much more than that. I’m so far beyond that. My ways are not your ways. As far as the heavens are above the earth, that’s what it’s like.
And then it continues and the other verse that was coming to me this morning was about how He says, my words that come out from my mouth, just like the rain and the snow, it’s going to accomplish what it was set out to do. That for me is one of those passages as a preacher that I said, thank God for that. Because it doesn’t depend on necessarily my eloquence or the words I speak and all that. It depends on God is faithful to his word and speaking what the Bible says. He’s going to accomplish what it’s set out to do. It’s not about my thoughts or what I say. It’s about what He thinks and what He says, so again, praise God for His faithfulness to His word. That it’s going to accomplish things. It’s going to work in your heart and I’m thankful for that this morning.
