Today we are ending the series on the life of Jacob as recorded in the book of Genesis.  My hope today is to do a 15 minute wrapup, and then to open it up for a time of testimony, specifically about things the Lord has been revealing to you during this series.  Now, Jacob has had a very eventful life, full of incredible experiences of the grace and blessing of God.  Jacob from the beginning was someone who did not deserve God’s favor and blessing.  He deceived his father, betrayed his brother, mistreated his wife, deceived his father-in-law, and was just generally a scoundrel.  But by the end of last week, Jacob has experienced the blessing, protection, and favor of God, and reconciliation with his brother Esau, who had sworn to kill him.  Jacob has had many amazing moments, from the dream of the stairway to heaven, to wrestling with God to marrying Rachel to reconciling with Esau.  So what do you think was the high point of his life?

In the book of Hebrews, chapter 11 is known as the “roll call of faith.”  In this chapter, the author of Hebrews lists many people found in the Old Testament and examples of how they lived by faith, hoping and trusting in God despite not seeing him.  In verse 21, Jacob is mentioned, and I think you’d be surprised at what the author of Hebrews chooses as the supreme example of faith in Jacob’s life.  What do you think?  Would it be wrestling with God?  Daring to go back to the land he came from to meet Esau?  Listen to what the author says:

Hebrews 11:21 - By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of Joseph's sons, and worshiped as he leaned on the top of his staff.

Why is this the highlight?  Why is this the greatest example of faith in his life?  Let’s turn to Genesis 48 and read the passage so that we can understand why this is the greatest example of faith in the life of Jacob:
